Opelika High School – Close to 100 Moms from Opelika / Auburn participated in the inaugural Atlanta Falcons Moms Football Safety Clinic last night at Opelika High School.
Hosted by Atlanta Falcons staff, the clinic featured former Atlanta Falcons Linebacker, and USA Football Master Trainer, Buddy Curry (1980-87), former Atlanta Falcons DB Bobby Butler, former Atlanta Falcons Robert Moore and other NFL Alumni, as well as a representative from the Taylor Hooton Foundation.
The clinic included both on and off the field instruction. Classroom instruction included presentations by Buddy Curry on concussion awareness & proper equipment fitting, Damian Martinez from the Taylor Hooton Foundation, to talk against steroid use, and Lori Harris (mother of Josh Harris – Falcons long snapper and Auburn grad) to talk one-on-one with Moms about their football questions, and what she faced as a Mom, raising a now, professional athlete. The event concluded with the ladies heading out to the field to practice drills with NFL Alumni about what they learned — specifically on “heads up tackling” and the proper technique to keep an athlete’s head out of the play.
“As mothers, all we hear is that your son needs a helmet/or he needs shoulder pads, but we never get information on the proper way to put the shoulder pads on,importance of making sure the pads are in the right place or how to measure so the helmet fits properly- so this clinic was a wonderful way for us to learn this info.”
